The Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, Environmental Health Division, is extending the wet weather test period for the evaluation of proposed onsite sewage disposal systems until April 16. Normally, the test period ends on April 1; however, recent rainfall will allow for continued testing.
While not required in all geographic regions of the county, wet weather testing is required for proposed sewage disposal sites with soils of low permeability requiring percolation testing, and/or where the depth to seasonally high groundwater needs to be determined, according to a press release from the Humboldt County Division of Environmental Health. Wet weather testing is mandatory in the waiver prohibition areas of Old Arcata Road, Jacoby Creek and Freshwater and is necessary in almost every case in Fieldbrook, Hydesville and the Trinidad areas, the department said.
