Two water quality violations reported at county facility in SLO

The county has been notified of two water quality violations that took place at its Kansas Avenue facility in April.

Inspectors with the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board noticed two separate instances of county employees discharging prohibited substances into a storm water collection system that drains into Chorro Creek. The water should have been discharged into the sewer system.

The first instance involved an employee rinsing out air conditioning filters at the county jail’s honor farm. The second incident involved an employee discharging “a dark-colored and odiferous liquid” from the sump of a car washing facility.
