According to an email sent out by SF Baykeeper tonight, at least six miles of East Bay shoreline -- much of it on Alameda's main island and Bay Farm Island -- have been hit by oil from the Dubai Star fueling accident Friday morning. Sixty birds have been reported oiled, including semipalmated plovers, western grebes, eared grebes, scaups and American coots. Equally worrisome, eelgrass beds -- the sole spawning habitat for Pacific herring and sole food source for the black brandt -- may have been contaminated.
