Sewage forces beach closure

San Diego Union Tribune

The county's Department of Environmental Health has closed beaches near the border because of sewage-contaminated runoff from the Tijuana River that entered the ocean.

County health officials found that ocean currents moved the contaminated flows from the river's mouth north to the south end of Imperial Beach.

Closure signs posted over the weekend will remain until tests indicate the ocean is safe for recreational use.
