Since the Cosco Busan oil spill, Bay Area activists are attempting to gather information on equipment available for quicker response to future spills.
"I think that we absolutely need to be prepared for what I think is almost inevitable - there is going to be another oil spill," stated Linda Seehan, Executive Director of the California Coastkeeper Alliance.
In an effort to reduce risk of another catastrophe some are looking to take measures such as including better ship traffic control and oversight of bar pilots.
"In this case, even if there had been a boom around a ship within minutes it would not have been able to stand up to the fast tides," says Deb Self with San Francisco Baykeeper about the importance of preparing for future incidents. "So we have some works to do in terms of developing better booms, and training people better to be able to react quickly."
