Lawsuit filed on Delta smelt rules

SACRAMENTO - Yet another lawsuit has been filed against the federal government regarding new rules protecting Delta smelt, this time by a coalition of state water exporters.
The agencies, which include cities from the Bay Area to San Diego, say the rules have already prevented the export of thousands of acre-feet of water each day from the giant pumps near Tracy.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which wrote the new rules, is the target of the lawsuit. The agency had to rewrite the rules after a federal judge threw out the old ones, saying they did not protect fish...
