Huffman Receives Coastal Protection Award

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) has received the 2011
“Paddle for Clean, Abundant Water” award for his commitment to protect California’s coastal
and inland waterways and fisheries. The award was presented today to Assemblymember
Huffman by the California Coastkeeper Alliance.

“I am very proud of my environmental record and I applaud the efforts of the California
Coastkeeper Alliance to safeguard marine ecosystems,” said Assemblymember Huffman.
“Through my leadership as Chair of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and Co-
Chair of the Legislative Environmental Caucus, I will continue to author and support legislation
that improves water quality, protects state beaches and rivers, and preserves California’s marine
wildlife.”

“California’s Waterkeepers welcome the opportunity to honor Assemblymember Huffman for
his groundbreaking efforts to protect the health of California’s waterways and fish,” said Linda
Sheehan, Executive Director of the California Coastkeeper Alliance.

Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) represents the 6th Assembly District, which
encompasses southern Sonoma County and all of Marin County. First elected in 2006, Huffman
chairs the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and also serves as Co-Chair of the
Legislative Environmental Caucus.

Founded in 1999, the California Coastkeeper Alliance (CCKA) is a non-profit organization that
coordinates, supports and enhances the work of local California Waterkeepers to ensure
Californians enjoy clean water and a healthy coast. CCKA and its member Waterkeepers
represent the only statewide-local partnership focused on the health of the state's waters and
coastal and marine ecosystems.
