More than 10,000 people are expected to remove trash from coastal and inland areas across San Diego County on Saturday during a clean-up effort that organizers said could break records.
Volunteers will fan out to 85 sites at beaches, bays, canyons and waterways to remove garbage before it ends up in the ocean and harms marine life.
Saturday's event is part of Coastal Cleanup Day -- dubbed the largest volunteer event in California by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Environmental groups San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love A Clean San Diego are organizing the local event, which will start with a 9 a.m. press conference at Rose Creek inlet at Mission Bay High School, 2475 Grand Ave., in Pacific Beach. It will end at noon.
