Residents and people who work in the city of Sacramento are invited to get involved in a new climate action plan, an effort to respond and adapt to climate change in the capital city.

The draft plan will be discussed at a public meeting at 6 p.m. today at 300 Richards Blvd., Room 221, in Sacramento.

The public may also take an online survey about energy efficiency and personal efforts to adopt a greener lifestyle.

The Climate Action Plan is part of the city's 2030 general plan.

It outlines goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, opportunities to create a green economy and related new jobs, improve energy independence, and adapt to climate extremes such as water scarcity and weather disaster.

To address climate change, the Sacramento City Council earlier this year adopted policies to reduce citywide greenhouse gas emissions to 15 percent below 2005 levels by 2020.
