Brown supports Delta canal or tunnel

California Gov. Jerry Brown says he wants some sort of way to ship fresh water around or under the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta instead of through the Delta.
He made the comment in remarks Wednesday to the editorial board of the Fresno Bee. There was little elaboration by the Bee in its reporting of the meeting.
Mr. Brown told the Bee that there would be a final water plan for the Delta by next summer.
The governor has been on record as supporting a peripheral canal – rejected by voters in 1982 – or a massive tunnel beneath the Delta.
“Governor Brown is continuing to promote Schwarzenegger's peripheral canal. Too bad. Another career politician clinging to ideas from the past that will not serve the present,” says Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, executive director of the nonprofit group Restore the Delta of Stockton. “It's a shame that he is not looking at cutting edge technology and new solutions to create a positive environmental and economic legacy for California.”
